Aging comes with lots of myths instilled in people’s minds. Many think that losing teeth is also a part of aging. In any case of tooth loss, dentures can be a good solution for them. But with proper care, you can enjoy your own teeth all your life.

In 1960, 49% of adults between the age of 65-74 had lost all of their teeth, while in 2012, this became 13%. According to research, many people now are able to enjoy the benefits of their natural teeth for a lifetime.

Even after a huge development in the field of general dental health, many people are having issues with their teeth. According to the recent findings by C.D.C. in “Dental Caries and Tooth Loss in Adults in the United States, 2011-12,”:

  • 91% of the adults between the age of 20-64 have had tooth decay, with 27% who never got it treated.
  • About 65% of adults aged 20-39 are twice more likely to have all their teeth than 34% aged between 40-64.
  • One in five adults by the age of 65 or older had tooth decay left untreated.

Even though these statistics are far better than the last decade, it still points out that the dental issue has still not left our side. Even now, in the U.S.A., tooth decay is the most common childhood disease. On the other hand, gum disease is the most common reason behind tooth loss in adults. If you have just one missing tooth, it can put stress on the remaining teeth while chewing, leading to more dental issues.

Fighting Back!

A number of public health measures taken have helped improve general dental health. Water fluoridation, applying dental sealants to seal grooves in the molars, and other educational programs have helped in keeping the mouth healthy. It is not just these factors but also the importance of self-care and well-being that also played a major in keeping people in good health. Good oral hygiene habits and following the routine strictly with the support of the dental team can give the desired healthy teeth for life.

We understand the challenges that come as we age, but with the right care, you can keep your beautiful smile for a long time.
